please don't e-mail me asking how much for an engine set for some Husky
model I do not list, I am not doing all models yet. Look over what I offer
and select what you need. Later down the road I will put together sets
for all years that are practical.. Please bear with me, thanks
I don't want to take little orders for nuts and bolts,
so i have not decided how to handle this just yet.
I most likely need a $20 minimum order for anything I sell, before
it is sensible to handle a small quantity hardware order.
Shipping on any order of just hardware only is $7 minimum, probably
little or no addtional shipping if you are already purchasing something
else with shipping.
Speaking of spray bomb crap, incidently the technique
I used on most of my current show and race bikes, there are some favorite
spray bomb paints that are currently used on most vintage Husqvarna.
Engine color of a Husky is black (no kidding) with a semi
flat sheen. And that sheen (flat, semi-flat, semi-gloss, gloss) is
the subject of discussion 'mongst Husqvarna know it alls. Each one of us
can pull out a factory NOS piece, point to it and start a story of how
it was in the old days, It started new as blah blah sheen, the owner sprayed
all kinds of oil crap on it maintaining the trans oil, air filter, gasoline
premix, then added dirt, then went to the car wash and hi pressure washed
it with hot water and detergent, repeat this 50 times and there is (no
doubt) and different sheen than new. So all the young guys (people under
50) ever see is this "aquired" sheen and they do not know what is correct.
This means the experienced Husky guys can have a good chuckle when they
spot a gloss black Husky engine paint job. So you want me to go on .....or
just tell you what paint to spray on your pathetic $50 restoration job?
Plasticote #230 flat black engine 500 degree spray bomb paint. $4-$5
a can, any auto parts store
for some reason this #230 will not become permanent until you heat
it up by running the engine, otherwise spilled gasoline will wash it off.
Even after running it is not the greatest. but is it cheap and fixable.
Exhaust expansion chamber paint
Plastikote HP11 - flat black 1200 degree paint. again this takes temperature
to "set" the paint.
This paint can be put on in 3 coats, with a soft , clean cloth wipe
down between coats to remove the powder residue. it would be ideal to leave
the powdery coat on the last coat and imediately run the exhaust to normal
temp and then let cool. If i am doing a show bike, i just wipe it off as
well. This is a delicate finish if not heated up to set properly.
Hubs and fork paint
Krylon Black Semiflat is what i used last bike and i was happy with
it. Walmart - $4
i am considering powder coat for forks and hubs. i have shyed away
from this finish as being too "thick" and gooey looking as well as failing
way sooner than powder coaters admit, and when it does, it is impossible
to make good again, effectively ruining the piece. I think it looks great
on hot rod cars!
