transporting Miura
06/26/05 - VLG
- Time for the (mostly) useless fact of the week - with a little
effort, you can put a Miura on a U-haul auto trailer safely.
If you're a cheapskate like me, spending $100 to tow a Miura with a
U-Haul trailer sounds pretty good when compared to purchasing a $2500
trailer that you'll have to store somewhere. U-Haul trailers aren't
half bad, with surge brakes and solid construction, but you'll need to
do two additional things to get a Miura on them:
1) Back your tow truck with trailer attached onto 2 lo style, drive on
ramp-stands, to give the trailer a downwards slope by lifting the nose
of the trailer. This will help keep the Miura from bottoming out on the
trailer when you drive it up the ramp. This could be accomplished by
other means, but careful thought must be used.
2) Raise and brace the front hood of the Miura about 2-3 inches when
loading, so as to allow the base (or chin) of the hood to clear the
front wheel stop of the trailer. You can close the hood safely after
the car is in position on the trailer.
And voila! You're off to Lake Tahoe for the weekend! TK
this is a work in progress! any help
would be appreciated. miura@adelphia.net
